A prominent Cornish coastal destination is preparing to introduce a modern technological element to its established seasonal evening entertainment.
Following a recent preview event, the Land’s End landmark is counting down to the public launch of an aerial display that aims to blend traditional pyrotechnics with contemporary drone capabilities.
Land’s End is set to launch a new drone show as part of its recurring Magic in the Skies summer event. The first performance is scheduled to take place on 23 July, marking a shift in how the venue delivers its night-time entertainment offering.
Historically reliant on fireworks, the updated programme will now feature synchronised drones operating alongside the pyrotechnic elements. The resulting displays are designed to utilise the coastal backdrop of the site, which sits at the extreme southwesterly point of the British mainland.
The addition of drone technology represents a notable update for the venue’s event lineup. Drawing thousands of visitors each year, Magic in the Skies has become a staple of the Cornish tourism calendar. While traditional fireworks have anchored the evening in previous years, the integration of synchronised drones allows for dedicated storytelling elements, light, and colour in the night sky. The venue notes that this marks the biggest evolution of the event in its history, aiming to blend technical innovation with the natural cliffside setting that makes Land’s End a highly recognisable destination.
Industry previews
Ahead of the public rollout, Land’s End hosted an exclusive preview evening for invited media, industry partners, and special guests. This initial viewing provided a first look at the aerial displays and the practical integration of the new drone fleet. A teaser trailer has also been released to the public, designed to showcase the scale of the upcoming production as final technical preparations are completed on site.
The Magic in the Skies events will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the school summer holidays. Alongside the main aerial spectacle, the destination is expanding its evening yield through supplementary operational offerings. Visitors attending the event will have access to live entertainment and dedicated food and beverage options, designed to encourage dwell time ahead of the region’s coastal sunsets and the night-time displays.
David Hocking, head of marketing at Land’s End, outlined the venue‘s approach to the upcoming season. “The response since announcing the drone show has been incredible, and we’re thrilled that we’re now just weeks away from welcoming our first audiences,” he stated.
He added, “Seeing the excitement at our preview event confirmed just how special these evenings are going to be. We’ve always looked to make Magic in the Skies bigger and better each year, and this is undoubtedly our most ambitious summer yet.”
