Gaming fans have a new reason to visit a popular Staffordshire theme park this summer.
Alton Towers Resort in the UK is bridging the gap between the digital and physical worlds with a fresh interactive experience. Visitors who explore the grounds will find a unique crossover event offering a digital prize unavailable anywhere else in the country.
Alton Towers Resort has announced the details of its upcoming interactive trail. The pop-up experience, named ‘Minecraft Meet the Mobs’, allows guests to interact with physical representations of characters from the popular videogame. This Minecraft event at Alton Towers is scheduled to run for a six-week period, arriving at the resort on July 18 and concluding on August 28, 2026.
Access to the experience is fully included within the standard park admission price. Once inside the venue, families can participate in the trail by locating six bespoke, Minecraft-inspired scenes placed throughout the park. Each scene features newly created ‘baby Mobs’ positioned carefully in their own habitats. In the context of the videogame, Mobs are living creatures that move around the environment and display passive, neutral, or hostile behaviours.
Furthermore, the daily schedule includes in-park costume character appearances, allowing attendees to meet ‘Minecraft Mobs’ in real life.

Unlocking the digital reward
Guests who choose to participate in the trail are given a game card. Upon completing the circuit and stamping their card at the designated locations, visitors unlock a special digital surprise. The resort has revealed that this completion bonus is a newly created, downloadable in-game item called the Baby Axolotl Hat.
Players can equip this cosmetic item to their character to wear within the Minecraft videogame. Within the UK, this specific digital hat is entirely exclusive to the Alton Towers Resort event. However, the same unique in-game reward will also be made available to guests visiting Italy’s Gardaland Resort theme park. The Gardaland event runs concurrently, starting on July 18 for a six-week period.

Continuing a history of attractions
This gaming crossover adds a new layer of family entertainment to the Staffordshire-based theme park. Alton Towers Resort is known for providing world-class attractions for guests of all ages. The park operates several notable rides, including Wicker Man, which was the first wooden rollercoaster built in the UK in over 20 years. The site also houses Oblivion, the world’s first vertical-drop rollercoaster, alongside The Smiler, the world’s first 14-loop rollercoaster.
By integrating a globally recognised digital brand into its physical space, the resort continues its strategy of delivering memorable and unique experiences for the millions of guests it welcomes from across the globe each season.
