ProSlide Technologies Inc. has launched a new enclosure designed to extend high-thrill attractions beyond a building’s external walls while maintaining complete climate control.

Unveiled during IAAPA Expo Europe in London, the new system is named ATRIUM. It was introduced in collaboration with the Belgian indoor water park Aqualibi. The concept has been purpose-designed to accommodate the scale of the TornadoWAVE 60 attraction, providing operators with a method to install the large-scale ride without consuming vast amounts of valuable indoor real estate.

The hardware combines an expansive, dome-shaped architectural footprint with ProSlide’s transparent SuperCLEAR fiberglass. This structural design provides generous overhead clearance and allows abundant natural light into the ride path. Riders journey from the interior of the water park into the enclosed external section, experiencing an open, airy environment that retains full weather protection before they return indoors.

For indoor water park operators and attraction designers, the system aims to present new ways to utilise premium indoor floor space. By shifting one of the largest physical elements of the water ride outside the main building envelope, venues can preserve their internal footprint for additional attractions, guest amenities, and secondary food and beverage facilities.

Aaron Wilson, SVP Business Development – EMEA & LATAM at ProSlide, outlined the specific operational hurdles the product aims to resolve.

“Indoor water parks face a unique design challenge: every square metre inside the building matters,” said Wilson. “ATRIUM gives designers and operators greater freedom to think beyond the walls of the park without compromising the scale and impact of the TornadoWAVE experience. Its expansive domed design and natural light create a true atrium around the ride, making the structure part of the experience itself.”

Debut installation

The first commercial installation of the ATRIUM technology will take place at Aqualibi, located at Walibi Belgium. The project will enhance Waikiki, the park’s existing TornadoWAVE attraction. This installation continues a longstanding supplier relationship between the two companies as the park pursues ongoing investments in its guest experience and wider sustainability objectives.

Jean-Christophe Parent, General Manager of Walibi Belgium, highlighted the dual motivations behind adopting the new enclosure.

“As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we decided to invest in this new solution for Waikiki for two main reasons,” Parent explained. “First and foremost, it will further enhance the guest experience and comfort, which remains at the heart of everything we do at Aqualibi.

“Secondly, it will help us improve our energy efficiency and continue progressing towards our ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. We are very happy to continue our collaboration with ProSlide on this new project and look forward to bringing it to life.”
