Staffordshire’s largest theme park has announced details of its final autumn event, ending the season with a bang.
Alton Towers Resort, the British Merlin Entertainments theme park, has confirmed that its annual fireworks display will return from 6th to 8th November under the title ‘Across the Altonverse’. The park has released details regarding the production, which will conclude the theme park season with a narrative-driven spectacle combining pyrotechnics, live performers, music, and special effects above the park’s skies.
The storyline centres on a group of explorers from the fictional Alton Society of Invention and Exploration. These characters will utilise a steam-powered, clockwork teleportation machine to navigate between the different worlds of Alton Towers in record time. Their journey takes audiences through the historical narratives and events associated with several of the venue’s most prominent rides and themed lands.
Storytelling after dark
The production features sequences dedicated to six distinct areas of the park and its headline attractions. In Forbidden Valley, the narrative explores the day the Nemesis roller coaster broke through the Earth. Katanga Canyon highlights a runaway mine train on the verge of running wild. The Dark Forest segment revisits the stormy night the ancient oak tree was chained, paying tribute to the Hex attraction, located near the historic Towers ruins themselves.
In X-Sector, the storyline reflects the control assumed by the Ministry of Joy, the organisation upon which The Smiler roller coaster is based. Gloomy Wood focuses on the New Year’s Eve curse that altered Alton Manor permanently, while Mutiny Bay presents a fiery ritual dedicated to the spirit of the Wicker Man, the popular wooden roller coaster by GCI.
Musical accompaniment across the six realms will vary significantly, incorporating genres such as Britpop, metal, funk, folk, and orchestral scores. Live actors return to the production to portray the four central explorer characters, engaging guests through pre-show storytelling before the main display commences. A new visual centrepiece named The Kronos will shimmer, pulse, and burst with light as the countdown to the show progresses. Additionally, the production includes an emotional tribute celebrating visitor affection for the resort, building toward a finale set to an orchestral score.

Visitors can choose from multiple ticketing and hospitality options. Standard tickets start from £39 pounds per person, granting full-day entry to the theme park alongside access to the fireworks display. For guests seeking enhanced viewing arrangements, a ‘VIP Explorers Point’ package is available from £40 per person, including a prime viewing area, a complimentary glow-in-the-dark accessory, and standard parking.
