A popular German theme park has outlined a multi-year expansion plan that includes new guest experiences alongside the permanent departure of a long-standing rollercoaster.
Europa-Park has announced its development roadmap for the coming seasons, starting with the addition of three new family attractions set to open in 2027. As Germany’s largest theme park, the destination is focusing its 2027 investments on shared experiences designed to bring different generations together.
The main new investment will be found in the Portugal-themed area, where a new Wild Swing XL from ART Engineering will be constructed. Standing at over 14 metres tall, the giant swing ride is designed to offer a mix of thrills and fun right in the middle of the Portuguese lake. The design of the giant swing draws inspiration from the atmosphere of the Portuguese coast, alongside the creative and inventive spirit of the country.

Spectacular views
The Iceland-themed area will see a new interactive tower ride positioned directly between the Wodan Timburcoaster and the blue fire Megacoaster. Guests of all ages will be able to steer the tower attraction themselves. The ride is positioned to allow visitors to enjoy completely new perspectives and panoramic views from high above the hustle and bustle of the surrounding harbour setting.
Meanwhile, the Italy-themed area will see the return of a classic. The existing dark gondola ride, which has been operating for over 40 years, will be revamped and relaunched as Enzo’s Piccolo Mondo. The returning attraction will allow families to discover more elements of Italy, showcasing impressive art, classical theatre, and Italian music to the park’s youngest visitors.

Commenting on the upcoming developments, Thomas Mack, managing partner at Europa-Park, emphasised that the three 2027 additions reflect the core values of the resort by prioritising shared experiences for the entire family. He noted that the combination of a refreshed Piccolo Mondo, the new interactive tower in Iceland, and the adventure of the Wild Swing XL in Portugal will collectively deliver on this goal for the resort.
2028 developments
Looking further ahead, Europa-Park has confirmed that the Euro-Mir rollercoaster will permanently close after 30 seasons. The Mack roller coaster, which features a striking silhouette, an unmistakable soundtrack, and a distinct ride experience featuring both forward and backward drops, has been a defining feature of the park since 12 June 1997. Euro-Mir will make its final run during the 2026 to 2027 winter season. The park plans to host a dedicated farewell event on 9 January 2027, inviting guests and fans to celebrate the history of the rollercoaster before dismantling work officially begins.

Despite the closure, the space theme will remain a fixture at the location. A completely standalone space-themed area is slated to open on the historic Euro-Mir site by the 2028 season. This development will combine tradition with the future by featuring a brand new family rollercoaster manufactured by Mack Rides, alongside other experiences.
To develop the new 2028 zone, Europa-Park, which was recognised at the recent Golden Ticket Awards, is collaborating directly with the European Space Agency (ESA). An official partnership was sealed between the two organisations in June. The aim of the agreement is to convey the fascination of European space travel in an accessible and inspiring way for children and families. This collaboration with the ESA will eventually play a key role in the new space-themed area, while also extending to feature in future educational programmes, events, and interactive experiences across the wider resort.
