Reverchon has announced the passing of Christian Reverchon, a key figure in the European attractions industry whose work helped shape the development of amusement rides enjoyed by families around the world.
The family-owned French ride manufacturer paid tribute to the engineer, describing him as a visionary whose contributions extended beyond the rides he helped create, leaving a legacy of technical knowledge and innovation for future generations.
In a statement, Reverchon said: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christian Reverchon at the age of 97.
“A visionary, a passionate engineer, and an iconic figure in the amusement industry. Christian devoted his life to imagining, designing, and creating attractions that have brought joy and wonder to generations of families around the world.”
The company added that his legacy could be found in its creations, the knowledge passed on through the business and the experiences enjoyed by visitors.
He is survived by his two children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A legacy in the attractions industry

Founded in 1927 by Christian’s father, Gaston Reverchon, the Reverchon business began as a bodywork business manufacturing bumper cars before expanding into a wider range of amusement rides.
Based in Samois-sur-Seine, France, Reverchon has developed attractions for amusement parks and travelling fairs throughout its history. The company has installed more than 3,000 attractions worldwide, according to its own figures, and is known particularly for its water rides and roller coaster designs.
Christian Reverchon devoted his career to the development and creation of attractions, with the company highlighting his commitment to engineering, innovation and the transfer of technical knowledge between generations.
Among Reverchon’s best-known contributions to the industry is the Spinning Coaster, a roller coaster concept in which vehicles rotate as they travel around the track. The manufacturer identifies itself as the inventor of the ride type, which has since become mainstream at theme parks and fairgrounds globally. Reverchon says it has sold more than 300 Spinning Coaster attractions worldwide, with installations available in both permanent park and transportable configurations.
The company also points to its history in water rides, including flume attractions. It constructed a flume ride for Parc Bagatelle in 1976, which it identifies as the first of its kind in Europe.
Its attractions have appeared at parks and destinations including Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Drayton Manor in the UK, Parc Astérix and Jardin d’Acclimatation in France, Kennywood and Six Flags in the United States, and several parks in Japan.
Family business continues to develop new rides
The company’s development history stretches back to its founding in 1927, when Gaston Reverchon established the original bodywork business. It subsequently expanded into ride manufacturing, producing attractions including the Telecombat in 1937 and the Bobsleigh in 1947.
In 1990, the business divided its operations to focus separately on roller coasters and water rides, while bumper car development continued independently.
Reverchon has continued to develop its range of attractions, with developments including a new generation of Family Coaster in 2020, and a new spinning coaster vehicle with an individual restraint system in 2022. It will continue its tradition of showcasing its latest products at IAAPA Expo in Orlando next month.
Paying tribute to Christian, the company said: “A man of high standards, innovation, and dedication, he leaves behind far more than an extraordinary professional legacy. He leaves a history, a wealth of knowledge, and values that will continue to live on through the generations.”
The statement concluded that his memory would remain in the hearts of his family and through the work he leaves behind.
His death marks the passing of a figure associated with a manufacturer whose attractions have been experienced by generations of visitors, as Reverchon approaches its 100th anniversary.
