A British Water park has recorded its highest summer visitor numbers in half a decade, alongside rising annual revenues.

Waterworld Leisure Resort in Stoke-on-Trent has experienced a robust first full year of operation within its new ownership portfolio. The resort was recently acquired by European leisure operator Looping Experiences in July 2025, joining a UK stable that also features Drayton Manor Resort and West Midlands Safari Park.

Located in Staffordshire, the year-round destination houses a tropical indoor Aqua Park equipped with more than thirty waterslides and rides, including thrill attractions such as the Cyclone, Spacebowl, and the Nucleus master blaster, alongside a wave pool and the Rapids. Visitors can also enjoy Adventure Mini Golf, featuring two eighteen-hole tiki-themed courses, and Adventure Mini Village, a Staffordshire-themed role-play attraction.

The outdoor pool area proved to be a primary visitation driver throughout the summer season. Following confirmation from the Met Office that summer 2026 marked the hottest in UK records, consecutive heatwaves drove exceptionally high visitor numbers and strong return visitation. The combination of indoor water facilities and the seasonal outdoor pool gives families the confidence to plan outings regardless of unpredictable weather, helping sustain attendance across key trading periods.

Investment over the past twelve months has concentrated on upgrading the overall guest experience, digital infrastructure, and food and beverage amenities. The resort launched a redesigned website and modernised ticketing platform earlier in the year to create a smoother booking journey. Implementation of dynamic pricing allows the venue to offer lower ticket prices on selected days and during quieter periods, providing visitors with accessible and value-led options.

Additionally, on-site catering facilities have been improved with a new speed-of-service system designed to reduce queue times at the Water’s Edge Restaurant.

Developments on the way

Building upon this momentum, the resort will implement a temporary closure at the end of the October half-term break. This closure will accommodate a scheduled programme of comprehensive upgrades across the waterpark before reopening early next year, with further details regarding future developments anticipated in the coming months.

Wayne Goodall, Managing Director of Waterworld Leisure Resort, reflected on the positive performance.

“Waterworld has had an extremely strong year, and these results give us a very solid platform for the next stage of our growth story,” Wayne Goodall stated. “Working closely with Looping Experiences, we have continued to invest in our people, facilities and the overall guest experience, and it is encouraging to see visitors responding so positively.”

Discussing broader consumer trends, he emphasised the enduring appeal of accessible family leisure. “At its heart, Waterworld offers families the chance to escape from everyday life and enjoy the feeling of a holiday experience together, without the cost or commitment of travelling abroad. Families still want those shared experiences and that sense of escapism, even when household budgets are under pressure. So offering a memorable, high-quality day out at an accessible price is more important than ever.”

Goodall remains optimistic about the destination’s trajectory within the UK leisure sector. “There is a real sense of momentum around Waterworld at present. We are confident that the next chapter for Waterworld will not only elevate the visitor experience but also solidify our position as one of the UK’s leading family leisure destinations.”
