Hong Kong Disneyland has unveiled new concept art for a new ride and entertainment offering currently in development.
Since it opened in 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland has seen significant transformation, opening as the smallest ever Magic Kingdom-style park with just four lands and two hotels. Six years later, the first major expansion opened with Toy Story Land, followed by the opening of Grizzly Gulch in 2012, home to the Vekoma family coaster Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars.
The Mystic Point land opened in 2013 with the award-winning Mystic Manor dark ride. Tomorrowland was later revitalised with Iron Man Experience, the first superhero theme park ride for Disney parks in 2017. The park’s Buzz Lightyear shooting dark ride was turned into Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! two years later. A third hotel, the 750-room Disney Explorer Lodge, also opened in 2017.
On September 12, the resort officially turned 20, with a year-long celebration coined “The Most Magical Party of All.” The vibrant celebration includes new entertainment, plus Mickey Mouse and friends will all be dressed in festive new outfits. A new range of exclusive anniversary-themed merchandise and food will also be on offer.
Future developments
Looking ahead, a Pixar-themed entertainment offering, funded entirely by the resort, will also be added. Concept art shows this will be based on the popular Disney-Pixar franchise Monsters Inc. A larger Monsters Inc. area is also currently under construction at Disney Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.
Hong Kong Disneyland guests can expect a new attraction featuring Tony Stark’s friend and new Stark Industries intern, Peter Parker. When one of Spider-Man’s most formidable foes spots the new Stark Industries technology, Spider-Man has to protect the tech and save the day. The new attraction will be the third ‘pavilion’ to open at Stark Expo in Tomorrowland. The ride format will utilise a similar drop tower system to the Tower of Terror attractions at other Disney parks.
Marvel attractions are a wider trend across Disney Parks worldwide, with further additions including a new Spider-Man roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland, and an expansion of Avengers’ Campus at Disney California Adventure, including a multimedia dark ride, Avengers Infinity Defense, and Stark Flight Lab, a family thrill ride involving robot arms.

Disney has many other projects currently in development around the world, including a makeover of Paris’ Walt Disney Studios, which will be rebranded to Disney Adventure World alongside a major expansion next year.
