One of the UK’s most visited family destinations is preparing to celebrate a significant milestone.
To commemorate three decades of operation, the team at LEGOLAND Windsor have revealed a colossal new installation that pays homage to thirty years of creativity and engineering.
The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort officially kick-started its 30th birthday celebrations today by unveiling a spectacular giant LEGO birthday cake. The massive structure near the park’s entrance, which stands 13 feet tall, has been constructed from a staggering 200,000 bricks. This colourful creation is not just a static display but a tribute to the attraction’s history, requiring a team of five expert model makers and 1,000 hours of dedicated design and build time to complete.
The model serves as a centrepiece for the resort’s 2026 season. It features intricate “toppers” that represent various iconic themes found within the park. Guests will be able to spot LEGO recreations of the Woodland Village, the Miniland London Skyline, Maximus the Sky Lion, and Roxie from the Minifigure Speedway. The cake will go on display to the public from Saturday, 14 February, coinciding with the start of the February half-term holidays.
Celebrating craftsmanship and dedication
The project also highlights the longevity and skill of the resort’s creative team. The attraction’s longest-serving pair of model makers, Paula Laughton and Paula Young, were responsible for putting the final bricks in place. Together, the duo celebrates a combined 55 years of creativity and craftsmanship at the resort, having helped bring the park’s iconic builds to life since the early days of its operation.
Paula Young, Head of Creative & Contracts at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, reflected on the personal significance of the anniversary.
“In my 27 years at LEGOLAND, this moment is truly special,” said Young. “Unveiling this incredible cake is the perfect way to kick off our 30th birthday celebrations. Every detail captures the fun, imagination, and creativity that have defined LEGOLAND Windsor for three decades. It is not just a cake; it is a joyful tribute to the memories we have made and the adventures still to come.”
A year of festivities
Since opening its doors in March 1996, the resort has welcomed millions of guests from across the globe. Management has confirmed that the giant cake is merely the first of many surprises planned for 2026.
Ramesh Ganeson, Vice President at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, noted that the unveiling is just the beginning of the scheduled festivities.
“For three decades, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has been a place where imaginations come to life and families create memories they’ll treasure forever,” said Ganeson. “Unveiling the giant LEGO cake to open the Resort is just the start of the extraordinary celebrations we have planned throughout 2026 – there are more incredible builds and experiences still to come! We are so excited to celebrate our 30th year and can’t wait to open for the season and see guests’ reactions.”
The resort has announced that the birthday cake will remain on display until autumn. The celebrations continue with the return of ‘Brick Days’ from Saturday 14 to Monday 23 February 2026. During this period, guests can access rides, attractions, and new character meet and greets. The itinerary also includes hands-on building challenges and a brand-new ’30th Birthday Brick Bash’, described as a high-energy party show to launch the year’s events.
Tickets for the ‘Brick Days’ event start at £32pp and are available for pre-booking online, with children under 0.9 metres receiving free entry to LEGOLAND Windsor.
