A generational transition in creative leadership is unfolding at one of Scandinavia’s most renowned theme park destinations.

Following an established tenure that shaped guest experiences for more than thirty years, the creative helm is being transferred to a professional with a background in architectural and spatial design. The shift aims to support the continued development of the wider resort in the coming years.

Liseberg has officially named Amanda Rydenstam as the new Creative Director for the entire destination. She is scheduled to formally assume the position on the 28th of September.

Rydenstam takes over the leadership role from David Schofield, who has been responsible for shaping the artistic and architectural identity of the destination for more than 30 years. To ensure a smooth transition of leadership and to maintain continuity across ongoing creative developments, Schofield will remain with the organisation. He will take on the position of Senior Advisor throughout the designated handover period.

Joining the amusement destination directly from the architectural sector, Rydenstam most recently served as Creative Director at Okidoki Architects. Her academic credentials include an Architecture degree obtained from Chalmers University of Technology. This formal education is further supported by additional studies in both art history and spatial design. The organisation notes that she brings extensive experience in creative leadership, concept development, and experience design. Furthermore, she holds a proven track record in delivering large-scale projects and generating compelling narratives within physical environments.

Balancing heritage and modern demands

Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg group, explained the rationale behind the appointment and the specific qualities the operator required during the selection process.

“We were looking for a person who could combine strategic thinking with creative excellence, while understanding the complex demands of a modern destination,” Andersen says. “In Amanda, we have found a leader capable of carrying forward Liseberg’s strong artistic and architectural heritage while bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas.”

The position entails comprehensive oversight of the destination’s creative direction, alongside a responsibility to safeguard its future evolution. Rydenstam’s remit extends beyond the traditional amusement park attractions. She will be responsible for the creative output across the operator’s accommodation offerings, the water park, and multiple restaurant venues. Additionally, her duties include managing seasonal concepts and guiding the aesthetic of all future development projects.

Discussing her new position, Rydenstam acknowledged the existing foundation of the park while looking towards upcoming visitor demographics.

Liseberg has a remarkable creative legacy that I greatly admire,” Rydenstam says. “I’m excited to build on what has made Liseberg such a success, while exploring new ways to create experiences for future generations of guests.”

Further details regarding ongoing project developments across the destination will continue to be managed through Head of Projects, Johanna Gärdsfors.
