Six Flags announces world-first giga dive coaster

Tormenta Rampaging Run 2026 roller coaster Six Flags over Texas CGI concept

Six Flags Over Texas has officially announced a major new investment for the upcoming 2026 season.

Announced following IAAPA Expo Europe 2025, plans have been revealed for Tormenta Rampaging Run, a giga dive roller coaster set to break six world records upon its debut. Manufactured by the renowned Swiss firm Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), the new attraction is being positioned as the park’s “defining thrill of 2026” and will be the first and only giga dive coaster in the world.

The coaster will serve as the centrepiece of a newly themed area, Rancho de la Tormenta, a Spanish-style village designed to immerse guests in a festive atmosphere. As visitors enter the plaza, they will pass under colourful banners while hearing jubilant Spanish music. The area will also feature a new dining location, Cocina Abuela, adding to the multi-sensory experience.

Tormenta Rampaging Run will dominate the Six Flags Over Texas skyline, standing as the world’s tallest dive coaster at a formidable height of 309 feet. The ride experience is themed around the exhilarating Running of the Bulls, with guests boarding open-air vehicles styled to mimic the vibrant costumes of the event’s runners.

Impressive stats

Upon cresting the massive lift hill, riders will be suspended at the peak, building anticipation before the train is released into a record-setting 285-foot drop. This main descent will feature a beyond-vertical angle of 95 degrees, making it the highest drop of its kind in the world. The coaster will reach a top speed of 87 miles per hour, securing the world record for the fastest dive coaster.

Throughout its 2 minutes and 54 seconds of duration, the ride will navigate a series of sharp turns and additional drops designed to replicate the chaotic thrill of its theme. The coaster’s layout, which will be the world’s longest for a dive coaster at 4,199 feet, includes two further record-breaking elements: the highest Immelmann inversion on a coaster at 218 feet and the tallest vertical coaster loop, which will stand at an impressive 179 feet.

In a statement announcing the project, the Six Flags park declared its intention to “take history by the horns with six world records.” The addition of Tormenta Rampaging Run represents a significant capital investment for the Arlington park and continues its long-standing relationship with Bolliger & Mabillard, a manufacturer known for its large-scale, high-quality steel roller coasters. The combination of a “giga” classification (a coaster over 300 feet tall) with the signature holding brake and vertical drop of a “dive” model creates a unique hybrid attraction, promising a one-of-a-kind experience for thrill-seekers when it opens in 2026.

The new coaster announcement follows the announcement of a $100m net loss for the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation during the second quarter of 2025.
