Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced the next major addition to its thrill ride portfolio, confirming that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will arrive in 2027.
The new high-octane outdoor roller coaster will mark a significant transformation for the Florida park’s entrance and skyline, as it is set to replace the long-standing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which has dominated the front of the park since 2009.
According to Universal, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift aims to immerse guests in the blockbuster franchise’s universe through a unique ride system. The attraction promises to replicate the “exhilarating sensation of 360-degree drifting,” suggesting a controlled-spin coaster design that allows ride vehicles to rotate while speeding through manoeuvres. Guests will ride in roller coaster cars modelled after Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger.
The layout will feature a massive 170-foot vertical “spike”—sending riders nearly 17 stories into the air—and will extend over the outskirts of Universal CityWalk, altering the visual dynamic of the resort’s entertainment district.
A Coast-to-Coast Expansion
The announcement highlights a cross-country strategy for Universal Destinations & Experiences. While the Florida version is slated for 2027, Universal Studios Hollywood is scheduled to debut its own unique version of the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift outdoor coaster later this year. This synchronised expansion underscores the company’s confidence in the longevity and appeal of the Fast & Furious intellectual property.

The arrival of the new coaster brings substantial changes to the existing attraction lineup at Universal Studios Florida. In addition to the removal of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit to make way for the new construction, Universal confirmed that the motion-simulator attraction Fast & Furious – Supercharged will permanently close in 2027.
The closure of Supercharged and the replacement of Rip Ride Rockit suggests a continued revitalisation of the park’s production central area, combining the current screen-based experiences with high-thrill hardware.
Universal Orlando stated that this addition serves as another example of the “incredible growth, momentum, and world-class innovation” currently driving the company, joining an award-winning collection of coaster experiences at the resort.
